Dropbox build 1.5.12 – Two-Step Verification

27.08.2012

The New Experimental Build 1.5.12 of the Dropbox desktop applications introduces two-step verification for all Dropbox accounts.

Two-step verification adds an extra layer of protection to your account by requiring an additional security code that is sent to your phone by text message or generated using a mobile authenticator app.

  1. Make sure you have the latest forum build (1.5.12) installed.
  2. Visit the following url to try this feature (may require you to sign in to the website): Two-step verification
  3. The link should send you to the Security tab for your account. In the “Account sign in” section near the bottom of the page, find the new “Two-step verification” option. Click the “(change)” link to begin the setup process.

safe

Dropbox advices to unlink & relink your account after enabling two-step verification.

DropQuest II is started..

12.05.2012

Dropquest is a multi-step scavenger hunt that has you solve a series of puzzles (inspired by the likes of MIT’s Mystery Hunt or Notpron [though not ne arly as time/effort-consuming]). Everyone who completes Dropquest will get at least 1 GB of extra free space, even if you participated last year. Also, everyone starts at the same time, but the questers who finish the soonest get additional amazing prizes.

That being said, we’ve got something to say about the Dropquest landing next weekend:

It’s back.

It’s harder.

It’s epic-er.

Get Extra Space on Dropbox for Uploading Photos and Videos [max. 4.5GB]

08.02.2012

You can never have too much Dropbox space, and now for a special beta period you can grab some additional free space while Dropbox is testing their automatic photo and video uploading feature. In exchange for trying their experimental build, you can get up to 4.5GB of extra space for free.

Experimental Dropbox build 1.3.12 imports photos and videos automatically from cameras, phones, and SD cards and batch uploads and downloads files. The forum post on Dropbox says:

“During this beta period, we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you’ll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 4.5GB total.”

When I installed the client, the software automatically detected my SD card and started uploading the photos, which it put into a new “Camera Uploads” folder and my account had the extra 500MB automatically added. Sweet. Now to find some more photos and videos to add…

DropQuest 2011

18.01.2011

Dropbox organized a scavenger hunt named Dropquest the other day. The first 81 people to complete all steps won some nice prizes, but everyone participating in the quest can get 1 GB of extra Dropbox storage space.

  • The timer starts as soon as you load the first step.
  • The entire Dropbox website (including the blog and the forums, which were needed for the quest to solve clues) was under heavy traffic at the time.
  • Also, I did take some breaks to investigate the HTML and JavaScript source code used in Dropquest.

Walktrough is available for the people who are limited on time;
